Individualized Intensive Program (IIP)
in Houston
What is the Individualized Intensive Program?
The Individualized Intensive Program (IIP) is a comprehensive 90 day treatment plan designed for individuals who need a structured clinical environment while maintaining flexibility as they progress through recovery. The program includes group therapy, individual therapy, family involvement, psychiatric care, and optional trauma focused modalities such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing.
Our IIP provides the structure of higher levels of care while adapting to each client’s unique goals, challenges, and personalized treatment needs.
How Is the IIP Program Structured for Personalized Care?
IIP is designed around a multi level approach that adjusts as the client gains stability and confidence in their recovery. Treatment begins with a detailed pre assessment to determine clinical needs and create a customized therapeutic plan.
Clients typically begin in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), transition into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Houston, and then move into Outpatient treatment for continued support. This stepped structure ensures that each client receives the right level of care at the right time while maintaining continuity with the same clinical team.

How (and Why) the Individualized Intensive Program Works
The IIP at The Heights Treatment walks you through each level of care we offer. This stepwise approach offers clients a highly structured, individualized path to a sustained recovery. By beginning with the partial hospitalization program, clients can deal with acute intoxication or withdrawal potential. They can then move on to the intensive outpatient program where they’ll receive the long-term support, treatment, and accountability they need to continue their recovery.
Efficacy of the Individualized Intensive Program
The levels of care included in IIP, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient, have all been demonstrated to reduce substance use and improve quality of life. Throughout the program, clients will have evidence-based treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and EMDR, as well as empirically based group therapy like Equine Therapy, Trauma-Informed Yoga, The Daring Way, and more.
The Heights IIP program is ideal for anyone transitioning from a higher level of treatment or an inpatient program. Our IIP program offers a multidisciplinary approach to client care in concentrated doses while still giving the schedule flexibility to maintain home, work, or school obligations.

What Our Houston Alumni Are Saying
ASAM Assessment and the Continuum of Care
The ASAM Criteria is the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for placement, continued stay, transfer, or discharge of patients with addiction and co-occurring conditions.
Using the ASAM Criteria in conjunction with our The Heights Treatment clinical staff’s professional judgment enables us to provide outcome-oriented, results-based care in our addiction treatment.
ASAM outlines various levels of care based on the outcome of the 6 ASAM dimensions assessment. These levels of care are on a scale ranging from 0.5 to 4, with 4 being the most intensive.
At The Heights Treatment, when the client has completed the goals on their IIP treatment plan and/or has stabilized in recovery to such an extent that they can complete the treatment process at a less restrictive level of care, such as our Outpatient Program, the client will transition to a lower LOC.
Continuum of Care
At The Heights Treatment, we strongly believe that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to treatment for mental health issues, substance use disorders, or co-occurring diagnoses.
Every client who undergoes treatment at The Heights Treatment first completes a pre-assessment. Based on this assessment, the Clinical Director and Treatment Team determine the appropriate Level of Care for the client.
Once the appropriate level of care is determined, the care each client receives is individualized based on:
- The results of the client’s multidimensional biopsychosocial assessment based on ASAM Criteria
- The client’s perceived needs
- The determination of the multidisciplinary treatment team
When the client has completed the goals on their treatment plan and/or has stabilized in recovery to such an extent that they can complete the treatment process at a less restrictive level of care, the client will transition to a lower LOC.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Individualized Intensive Program in Houston
What is an Individualized Intensive Program (IIP)?
The Individualized Intensive Program (IIP) is a highly structured treatment plan designed to match each client’s unique clinical needs. At The Heights Treatment in Houston, the IIP provides a customized 90-day path that integrates group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatric support, and structured accountability. Clients receive a personalized plan that adjusts as they progress through their recovery.
How is the IIP program structured to ensure personalized care?
The IIP is meticulously structured to provide personalized care through a multi-level, 90-day treatment approach. Each client begins with an in-depth pre-assessment to determine their specific needs, which informs a customized plan that integrates therapy, psychiatry, and supportive services. Clients typically start in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), then transition into Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and eventually step down to Outpatient care.
This phased structure mirrors the clinical intensity needed at each stage of recovery, gradually reducing treatment hours, increasing independence, and maintaining consistent therapeutic support. Throughout the program, clients participate in group, individual, and family therapy, with optional enhancements such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and supportive housing resources. This ensures that each client receives a tailored, comprehensive path uniquely aligned with their recovery goals.
What can I expect during the 90-day program?
During the 90-day IIP, clients will progress through different levels of care, starting with intensive partial hospitalization (I-PHP) for the first four weeks, followed by two phases of intensive outpatient care (I-IOP5 and I-IOP3). Each phase is designed with a structured schedule of group therapy, one-on-one sessions, and Transcend mentoring. The program’s goal is to provide clients with the necessary support and treatment to navigate their recovery journey successfully, addressing acute issues in the earlier stages and focusing on long-term support and accountability in later stages.

Each client receives a customized blend of group, individual, and family therapy, with optional enhancements such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and other evidence-based services depending on their clinical needs. This comprehensive, individualized structure provides far more flexibility and precision than standard treatment models. This approach is what makes our Individualized Intensive Program in Houston one of the most comprehensive and effective treatment options available.
