Substance Use Disorder Treatment in Houston

Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery

Speak With Admissions

You are not “failing.” You are dealing with a treatable condition and you can recover.

Heights Treatment Is Here to Help

Substance use disorder (SUD) and alcohol addiction often show up as “functioning” until they don’t, relationships strain, performance slips, anxiety spikes, sleep disappears, and the cycle gets harder to stop.
At The Heights Treatment Center, we provide a structured outpatient model that combines clinical depth with real-life flexibility. We treat addiction and the drivers underneath it, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational patterns that keep relapse on repeat.
If you are at risk of withdrawal (especially alcohol or benzodiazepines), do not stop abruptly without medical guidance. Call our admissions team to talk through safe next steps.

Recovery Is Possible

Our SUD Treatment Focus

We treat substance use and alcohol addiction as a whole-person, whole-life issue. That means addressing behavior, nervous system regulation, trauma history, mental health, family systems, and relapse risk, together.

CBT for Relapse Prevention

Identify triggers, disrupt automatic patterns, and build practical coping strategies for daily life.

DBT Skills for Cravings

Strengthen distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, especially under stress.

Trauma Work (EMDR)

Treat trauma drivers that often sit underneath relapse cycles and emotional avoidance.

Neurofeedback

Support focus, sleep, and nervous system regulation with real-time training feedback.

Mindfulness

Build awareness, interrupt impulsive loops, and strengthen recovery resilience.

Equine Therapy

Experiential work that supports boundaries, trust, and emotional awareness in real time.

For Partners and Loved Ones

If someone you love is struggling with substance use or alcoholism, the impact reaches far beyond the individual. Broken trust, unpredictability, fear, and constant vigilance are common, and many loved ones experience anxiety, sleep disruption, anger, or emotional exhaustion as a result.

Your reaction makes sense. Substance use disorders affect the entire system, not just one person. We support partners and families in understanding addiction and recovery, setting healthy boundaries, and taking next steps that protect safety while encouraging accountability and long-term change.

FAQs About Substance Use & Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Answers to common questions families and clients ask when deciding on a treatment plan.

What are common signs of substance use disorder?

Signs can include increased tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, loss of control over use, secrecy, mood changes, missed responsibilities, financial strain, relationship conflict, and continued use despite negative consequences. If you are unsure, our admissions team can help you talk through what you’re seeing and what level of care may be appropriate.

How do I know what level of care I need?

The right level of care depends on medical risk, relapse history, mental health symptoms, safety considerations, and how much structure you need day-to-day. We will walk through a brief assessment and recommend a path that fits your situation, often starting with PHP, IIP, or IOP depending on stability and support needs.

Do I need detox before starting treatment?

Some substances can involve medically significant withdrawal. If you are using alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other substances and are concerned about withdrawal, do not stop abruptly without medical guidance. We can help determine whether a higher level of medical support is needed before starting outpatient programming.

What if addiction is connected to anxiety, depression, or trauma?

This is extremely common. We treat co-occurring mental health needs alongside addiction, often including trauma therapies and family involvement, so you are not trying to “white-knuckle” sobriety while symptoms stay unaddressed. You can explore related support here: Family Support and Houston Addiction & Mental Health Rehab.

What therapies are used in treatment?

Treatment commonly includes evidence-based therapy, skills groups, psychiatric care when indicated, and adjunctive modalities that support nervous system regulation and emotional processing. You can explore some of our core therapies here: CBT, DBT, EMDR, Neurofeedback, and Mindfulness.

What should I do if someone is in immediate danger?

If there is an immediate medical emergency, call 911. If you are concerned about suicide or self-harm, call or text 988 in the U.S. for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
